A visit with Christine Ahearn Teacher receives CSL leadership award

Conley School teacher Christine Ahearn recently received the Community Service Learning Teacher Leadership award at the Massachusetts Annual Statewide Service-Learning Conference held at the College of Holy Cross. The Express had a chance to sit down with Ahearn and discuss some of the community service projects the Conley School has been working on. What is your role as the CSL teacher at the Conley School. I work as part of a team with Charlene Sullivan, Donna Green and Assistant Principal Mike Boyce and we manage the Community Service Learning Club here at the Conley School. What community service project has Conley School focused on this year. This year the CSL students are focused on cultivating service-learning in an intergenerational Community garden.

You can always buy aero garden kits from the website of Aerogrow that has popularized the concept of aero gardens. However, the idea behind aero garden is creating an environment for the plants to grow in an aeroponic and hydroponic environment. With this kit you get the flower pots as well as seeds to grow your garden. The basic fundamental behind building an aero garden is to grow plants without soil.
