Cool hues! For crisp, contemporary walls, it's best to go blue

To see how your colour of choice plays out on your walls, Ms. Grech recommends painting a test patch and checking in at various times of the day to see how it looks in different light. “In a room with cool walls it helps to have darker colours toward the bottom of the room, such as a darker floor or furnishings, to ground the space so you don’t feel like you’re floating away. “To give a cooler room a warm glow, you need to include a variety of light sources at different levels, such as sconces, table lamps and task lighting. For instance, if you went with pale blue taupe on your bedroom walls, tossing a cozy throw the colour of egg yolk on the bed will add brightness and warmth to the room overall. “You just have to add contrast, and then ground the space as well,” Ms. Goldman.

) The screen was pretty dirty, from being outside, and at one point had had thin paper/linen paneling in the slats of all three panels. But someone had ripped up the paper from the side panels, and little tuffs of white paper/linen/textile (I’m not sure what it is actually made from) stuck out all over the edges.
