Upper Charles River Trail in Milford reopens with cleanup nearly done

Workers have finished removing soil from near the trail but have temporarily stored it in a parking lot between the Fino Field pool and Votolato Field, Town Engineer Michael Santora said. A section of the trail between Fino Field and Dilla Street had been closed since December for an Environmental Protection Agency-funded cleanup of land behind Benjamin Moore & Co. ’s Sumner Street facility. The soil, covered with a tarp and fenced off, is being stored in the parking lot while it is tested to determine its permeability and what exactly is in it. Once workers get the test results, they will know how they should get rid of the material,... “The excavation has been backfilled, and fencing has all been removed,” Santora said.
